P.E.A.C.E. Model

The P.E.A.C.E. Model is a simple framework for effective referee instruction. By focusing on Platform, Engagement, Audience, Content, and Environment, instructors and mentors create clear, engaging, and consistent learning experiences that help referees understand expectations and apply them confidently on the field.

Platform skills are how you show up as an instructor or mentor. Your voice, body language, confidence, and presence set the tone. Clear communication and approachability help referees feel comfortable, engaged, and ready to learn from the moment the session begins.

Engagement focuses on getting referees involved in the learning process. Effective instruction goes beyond lecturing and encourages participation through discussion, questions, activities, and scenarios. When referees are actively involved, learning becomes more meaningful and memorable.

Audience reminds instructors to teach the people in front of them. Referees come with different ages, experiences, and motivations. Understanding who you are teaching allows you to adjust language, examples, and activities so the session meets referees where they are.

Content is the information being taught. Instruction should be accurate, current, and appropriate for the level of referee. Using correct terminology and trusted resources ensures referees receive clear, consistent guidance that supports confident decision-making on the field.

Environment includes the space, setup, and tools used for instruction. Thoughtful planning of the room or field, equipment, and logistics reduces distractions and supports learning. A well-prepared environment helps sessions run smoothly and keeps the focus on development.
