2026 – Walterson Torchon

Walt became addicted to soccer refereeing as a senior in high school, when he started officiating games at the recreational, middle, and high school levels.  Walt did this for ten years, and after attending a Maryland soccer referee mentoring event in 2018, decided to become a USSF registered referee. He earned his Referee certification in 2018, and over the next few years, Walt continued to challenge himself and advance his refereeing career. Walt earned his Regional badge in 2022 and became a National Referee this year.

If you watch Walt officiate soccer, you can observe that he is very intense at his craft, and people have noticed. He has been selected to officiate many high school state finals in both Maryland and Delaware. Walt has officiated conference finals for College D3 men and women and has officiated matches at the College D2 and D1 levels.

In 2023, Walt officiated the UPSL National third place match as well as the National Final.  In the same year, Walt officiated a USL2 National Semifinal game.  In 2024, he was selected to referee the USYS U19 Girls’ National final, which was broadcast on ESPN. In 2025, he officiated an APSL semifinal game.  For the past few years, Walt has done many amateur/pro matches for USL2, NPSL, and NISA.  Recently, Walt has been working matches on the professional level.

Walt’s parents are from Haiti, and he was born in New York, but the family relocated to Salisbury, Maryland, when Walt was ten. He and his wife, Mary, who has been very supportive of Walt’s officiating career, have been married for eleven years and have two daughters, ages seven and four. He works as a mental health therapist and serves regularly at his local church. Maryland is lucky to have a soccer official so dedicated to improving his abilities.
