Grassroots Referee Recertification Information

Grassroots Referee recertification consists of 2 or 3 parts, age dependent.  All Grassroots Referees are required to complete online sessions plus attend 5 hours classroom or field sessions. These 5 hours can be completed all at one time by attending a Recertification Clinic or by completing 2 – 2 1/2 hour monthly In-Service clinics. All Referees age 18 and older are also required to successfully complete the SafeSport program online before they can be certified.

Important SafeSport requirement information

As of this year, every referee 18 years of age and older MUST complete SafeSport training in order to officiate any games. If you turn 18 between October 2nd, 2019 to June 30th, 2020 you will have 30 days after you turn 18 to complete this SafeSport training. This training will take approximately 2 hours and is mandatory. You are required to complete this no later than October 1st, 2019. Instructions how to access the training can be found here:

https://ussoccer.app.box.com/s/hqwzpluhr05kieixv0caz8zfd130uuz5

When you successfully complete training, you will receive a “SafeSport Trained” certificate. Save this certificate (.pdf file). You may need to upload it to US Soccer at a later time.

THIS IS A MANDATORY REQUIREMENT! If you do not complete this training by October 1st, 2019, you will no longer be licensed as a USSF Referee.

Monthly Clinics

Monthly In-Service Clinics are an alternate way to achieve your 5 hour minimum recertification requirement. Carroll and Howard County In-Services are 2½ hours. Montgomery County In-Services are 1 hour and 45 minutes. These clinics are usually more casual and less crowded than Recertification Clinics. Many subjects are covered and guest instructors are often brought in to teach a session. These are also a great way to get fresh ideas while interacting with peers.
